Want Success? Try Failing Faster

I received an email from one of my small business clients (service industry) today with the subject line:

“Just want to let you know I’m failing faster.”

This is what her email said:

I’ve learned that I still fail fairly slowly but I’m much faster than I used to be!!

Bruce was a client I took on in January. The situation quickly mirrored a 30 hour per week J.O.B. Yuk. But the money was good and so I tolerated it.

9 months later, he and I have mutually agreed that this isn’t working. He’s going to hire a full-time employee and I’m free to focus on building my business with more clients.

It took me 11 years at my corporate job to realize I needed to make a change. But this only took me 9 months! Maybe next time I’ll make the change as soon as I recognize it needs to be made. I’m still learning to fail quickly and move on to the next success.

What a perspective. She made me think a bit differently about failing. Perhaps failing faster is how we accelerate our long-term success.
