A business lesson from the movie Galaxy Quest
I derive a lot of business inspiration from movies. I love movies so much, I have an entire blog category dedicated to movies and business. One of my favorite movies is a campy comedy called Galaxy Quest (PG) starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman. It’s a spoof of the Star Trek shows and if you have a somewhat warped sense of humor (pun intended) it’s pretty darn funny!
While exploring space, Captain Jason Nesmith (played by Tim Allen) and his crew face cute little aliens that become…not so cute, a towering rock monster and an evil lord from another planet.
At first the captain is cowardly. But as they overcame each hopeless situation, his confidence grew stronger. In their last great battle his crew needed to be rallied. With triumphant resolve, the Captain finally raises his chin up to the sky and confidently shouts to his crew:
“Never give up! Never Surrender!”
There are worse quotes to have at your desk.
Running your business, believing in yourself and fighting for your dreams is a choice. There will be days when business comes easily to you and as the Irish blessing says, “the road [will] rise up to meet you.” And then there will be days when you are forced to slowly navigate cavernous potholes.
During those times, choose to fight. Tell those who don’t believe in you that you will not give up! Give the economy the back of your hand! Look at your competitors and shout that you will never surrender!
The road will rise up to meet you again.
Shut Up! There are more posts like this? Yes!
